The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) plays a significant role in shaping responsible, informed, and active citizens among young adults. This club was intiated at our campus, TTWRDC(W) in 2022 from then on this club has made the students to become part of electoral process .In TTWRDC(W),this club played important role in conducting "Student Council Elections".Specially,Department of Arts has organised many voter awareness programmes,mock elections,celebrating commomerative days like VOTERS DAY,etc. to make students part of real life democratic electoral process.
Importance of an Electoral Literacy Club
Educates First-Time Voters
Most college students are first-time voters. ELCs help them understand how to register, vote responsibly, and value their democratic rights.
Promotes Youth Participation in Democracy
By encouraging students to participate in elections, ELCs help reduce voter apathy and build a culture of active citizenship among the youth.
Builds Awareness of Electoral Processes
ELCs provide knowledge about the structure of Indian elections, roles of the Election Commission, ethical voting, and how elections impact governance.
Fosters Critical Thinking and Debating Skills
Activities like mock elections, debates, and discussions organized by ELCs promote informed thinking and help students analyze political and social issues objectively.
Prepares Future Leaders
Through involvement in ELC activities, students develop leadership, communication, and organizational skills, preparing them to be future leaders and responsible citizens.
